We are fortunate to have found the video recording of two sets of Praying Mantis performance by Master Wong, “Mantis stealing Peach” and “Plum Blossom Hands”. These were shot around 1972~73 with a super-8 camera but were deemed lost until recovered recently. They were digitised and now presented to you. Though Master Wong was already in poor health at that time, his excellent performance was evident in the convergence of agility and rigor in the postures. One can marvel at his straight back, strong arm and leg strikes, sharp eyesight as well as maintaining a precise fast-slow, withdrawal-extension rhythm. We trust that these precious relics not only serve as a benchmark for martial arts performance, but can provide guidance to those who practice it.
These black-and-white films were shot with a super-8 camera around 1972-1973. They were then digitized over a period of time and now made available for your perusal. Are we concerned that one might learn these sets and take them as their own without our consent? No matter! It is indeed our sincere wish that they would perform these sets better than we do. When that happens, please don’t forget to acknowledge and pay tribute to Mr Hon Fan WONG, the master who passed on the treasures of the Praying Mantis School Martial arts to us.
